Due to the fact that the Hotel is located in an area of great touristic attraction and has a privileged geographical site, it allows the development of countless tours and activities around the area.
Among the main activities that can be booked directly with Lomas del Volcan Hotel we find:
Walk at the Arenal Volcano
In this tour to the Arenal Volcano the northeast part of the volcano is visited. The tour initiates with a walk departing from the main entrance of the park until the petrified lava flows are reached, site from which the volcanic activity is better appreciated.
During the hike, it's possible to observe the big variety of plants, wild life and magnificent formations of petrified lava present in the park.
During the tour, a naturalist guide will accompany you and provide you with interesting information about the geological history of the volcano and about the national park itself form its foundation and origins.
The tour concludes with a visit to the thermal baths, where you will be able to relax for a while and then dine. This last part of the excursion is optional and must be requested at the hotel at the time of the reservation.
Departures: 8:00 a.m. ó 3:00 p.m. from La Fortuna.
Returns: 12:00 m.d. ó 6:30 p.m.

Combined Tour of the Hanging Bridges and the Fortuna River Waterfall
This excursion starts with a journey of 20 minutes up to the hanging bridges of Arenal, a forestry area where you will be able to appreciate a big variety of animal species and vegetation. Here you can watch and enjoy a great diversity of tropical plants, birds and small mammals like the three-toed sloth or the congo/howler monkey, while you walk the different trails that are connected by bridges in suspension in those points where there are canyons and steams of deep waters flows.
After the visit to the hanging bridges, we return back to La Fortuna and continue for 15 minutes on to the Fortuna River Waterfall. Only a few meters away from the waterfall, you can enjoy swimming in a natural pool surrounded with huge rocky canyons and lush vegetation, ideal for relaxing. Also you can enjoy the spectacular views of the San Carlos plains and the tropical forest. After a refreshing swim, we return to the town of La Fortuna again to have a delicious lunch.
The next destination after lunch is the Arenal Volcano National Park, where there will be a hike of about 30 minutes until the sector of the old lava flows is reached, place where you can observe the volcano in its maximum splendor and where both fauna and flora from the area conjugate making this walk one of the most exciting experiences for the visitor.
Being on top of petrified lava flows, watching the sunset and, being able to appreciate at night the activity of this colosal volcano is definitely an experience that you will never forget.
This excursion´s last activity a visit to any of the thermal baths of the area, where you will be able to relax in thermo mineral waters from volcanic origin and enjoy an exquisite dinner while observing the view of the Arenal Volcano at night.

Canopy Tour
The Canopy Tour that we offer differs from others in its privileged location at the base of the Arenal Volcano, for its primary forest and for having the highest security standards for this adventure sport. It is one of the few canopy tours that includes a second cable for double security. Aside from that, it offers the possibility of operating the tour at the time picked by the client and we have the best staff of the area, specially trained for the canopy´s safety practice.
It has 12 cables and 14 platforms divided in 2 sections. The first of 8 cables and 9 platforms and after this section we continue with the Tarzan Swing.
Tarzan Swing
This is everybody's favorite. The tarzan swing consists in jumping into the air and swing between the trees. This experience will have you forget the day to day stress and certainly will pump up your adrenaline to the maximum.
After the Tarzan Swing we have 4 more cables and 5 platforms.
The Canopy is, without a doubt, one of the adventure sports that is practiced the most in Costa Rica, consisting of crossing from one tree to the other via a cable, making the journey on the highest level of the jungle, commonly called: canopy.
Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge Excursion
For those wildlife lovers, this is the best opportunity to take advantage of your day.
The Caño Negro Wildlife National Refuge is located 1.5 hours away from Lomas del Volcan Hotel. The tour departs at 7:25 in the morning with a transfer in an air-conditioned microbus with comfortable seating.
Once we arrive at the town of Los Chiles, the journey will take place in a roofed boat where seats are provided and taking the Frio River as our route heading towards the refuge. This has a seasonal lake from about 800 hectares of extension and holds a big variety of migratory birds, resident and seasonal. During our ride on the river it's possible to observe a great diversity of birds, monkeys, iguanas, lizards, turtles and caimans.
The Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge has an importance of international character, since it was declared in 1991 a "Wetland of International Importance", aside from being protected by the Ramsar Convention, celebrated in the Iranian city of the same name in 1971, for the protection of wetlands all over the world.
Once the river journey finalizes and the visit to the refuge is over, there will be a delicious lunch waiting for you and after we head back to the hotel.

Nightwalk in the forest.
Experience the night life in the tropical forest.
In this tour, you will be able to appreciate close to 28 different frog species, all with striking colors and peculiar singing. The tour starts with a transfer of approximately 10 minutes in a small bus from the hotel to the private forestry reserve of Arenal Oasis.
Once at the place, the journey is by foot on the different trails inside of the forestry reserve. At this moment our guide with knowledge in frogs will explain about the different species of amphibians and other local species. Aside from frogs, the location is ideal for the observation of snakes and small mammals that occasionally appear along the trails.
The tour departs every day at 5:45pm from the hotel and returns at 8:30pm.

Boat Safari on the Peñas Blancas River
In this tour you will be able to experience the tranquility of the forest travelling on the Peñas Blancas River, with an opportunity to see many animals like: monkeys, sloths, iguanas, turtles, caimans and different types of birds. The journey is made on an inflatable boat, a raft without a motor. This way you will enjoy the trip in silence, by rowing and taking pictures, while drinking beverages and eating tropical fruits without disturbing the animals.
In this trip you will be accompanied by a naturalist experienced guide, who will explain to you fascinating details about the trees, plants, birds and other animals. This half day tour is specially designed for people with limited time or those who wish to leave some additional time to take another tour around the region.

Return to hotel: 11:00am or 5:00pm

Whitewater Rafting in Toro River (Class III and IV )
Toro River is the most intense rafting challenge in the northern area of Costa Rica and the closest to the Arenal region. It has 16 kilometers of length and more than 45 rapids quite technical, all class III and IV, that will rise your adrenaline to the maximum.
In the tour, you will have the opportunity to see sloths, monkeys and tropical birds, that are often found in between the lush vegetation along the side of the river. After this adventure you will never forget the names of "Hueco Gringo"; "Codo del Diablo" y "Hueco Palmitos" , rapids that will make of this challenge an unforgettable experience.
